The folk-rock music of Dan Fogelberg comes to Stonington, performed in a very special live concert by the Don Campbell Band at the Stonington Opera House on Friday, August 19th at 7pm. For one night only, the New England-based Don Campbell brings the songs of an American icon back to Deer Isle, where Fogelberg lived for many years, and where he passed away in 2007. The performance includes many of Fogelberg’s hits as well as favorites from across the artist’s career, including some – like “The Reach” – that sing the praises of wild places here along our own Maine coastline.
“We thrilled to be able to host this special evening of music,” says Producing Artistic Director Meg Taintor. “Dan Fogelberg’s music is the perfect fit for the Opera House: welcoming, warm and full of heart. To have this program performed by The Don Campbell Band, a wonderful Maine-based musical group, is a true treat for us and our community.”
Dan Fogelberg was known for such songs as “Part of the Plan,” “Same Old Lang Syne,” and “Leader of the Band.” He had a home on the Eggemoggin Reach in Deer Isle, where his wife, Jean Fogelberg, continues to live.
Don Campbell is, like Dan Fogelberg, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, combining sounds from across genres and traditions. Having released 14 albums, including a 23-song collection “Kites to Fly: Celebrating the Music of Dan Fogelberg,” This album caught the attention of The Fogelberg Foundation of Peoria whose leadership invited the Band to headline the 2013 Annual Dan Fogelberg Celebration Weekend in Dan’s hometown of Peoria, IL. The Band performs Evening of Dan Fogelberg concerts around the country and is officially endorsed by the organization. Campbell has also opened for such names as Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Willie Nelson. He performs between 150 and 200 times a year, with various ensembles. He was named Maine’s Best Singer-Songwriter for six consecutive years (2004-2009) in the Maine Sunday Telegram’s Annual Readers Poll.
Tickets for this event are $20-$35 and are available online, at the box office, or at the door.
