There’s no better way to start a new year than with a song. On Wednesday, January 6 at 6 p.m., Opera House Arts’ Live in the Lobby, sees your “Auld Lang Syne” and raises you an entire evening of tunes and laughter. Surround yourself with neighbors and music at this event hosted by local band, Archipelago.
“Growing this series from a one-time magical event this past summer to a monthly offering throughout the year wouldn’t be possible without our amazing community,” says Producing Artistic Director Meg Taintor. “Everyone has really embraced the open mic format and I can’t wait to see who will join Archipelago in adding their voices to our new tradition this month.”
Featuring Geoffrey Warner, Frank Gotwals, Cindy Coombs and Dave Quimby, Archipelago, performs beautiful harmonies, and creative arrangements, backed by a talented variety of instrumentation on guitars, fiddle, base and percussion. Inspired by timeless tales, dreams, and life’s passions, they will fill the Opera House lobby with original, traditional, and contemporary songs and tunes before opening up the evening to the talents of other members of and visitors to the Deer Isle-Stonington community through an open mic night.
This is a free event. There are no reservations necessary.
In addition to Live in the Lobby, Opera House Arts stays busy throughout the winter with first run films each weekend, an AltMovie once a month and other live performances in the form of Community Staged Readings and informal concerts.
Upcoming movies include In the Heart of the Sea, starting Friday, January 1; and Creed, startingFriday, January 8; as well as a free Community Matinee screening of High Society, starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra, on Thursday, January 14 at 1 p.m. and a free Winterfest Dance on Saturday, January 16 at 7 p.m. For more information about year round programming, please visit www.operahousearts.org or call 207-367-2788.
