On Friday, March 13 at 7 pm, at the Blue Hill Public Library, the Alliance for Democracy Downeast will present the fourth in its series of programs about co-operatives, Farming Co-ops and Local Economies. Jonah Fertig will speak about food and farming co-ops and their relationships, and Sam May will speak about credit unions, a particular type of co-op, and their role in local economies. Fertig works for the Cooperative Development Institute and serves as a board member of both the Crown of Maine Cooperative and the Eat Local Foods Coalition and has abundant and varied experience in farming and food professions. He was a co-founder of Local Sprouts in Portland. Sam May is a former investment bank executive and is now on the board of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and the steering committee of Slow Money Maine. He co-founded the Maine Harvest Credit Union.
