Pulled Out a Plum

At the Stonington Farmers Market every Friday from 10AM to Noon through end of September, we pride ourselves on being neighborly to our customers and to each other. When Art By Katy‘s 100 year old Victoriana plum tree began to die, artist Katy Allgeyer needed to have it cut down. She offered it via facebook to wood craftsman Charles Read of Farview Farm in return for cutting and removing it from her property. The remaining stump will be ready to pull out of the ground next spring thanks to Charlie’s expert treatment.

We didn’t think to capture the actual tree cutting on film but here is a picture of a similar one. The plum purple color is sure to look spectacular under Charlie’s craftsmanship but we’re told the wood needs a couple of years to dry cure before he can actually use it. Stay tuned!
