OPERA HOUSE ARTS’ ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING
Everything you want to know about the Opera House–but are afraid to ask!
STONINGTON – Opera House Arts (OHA) is pleased to invite all regional community members to its 14th Annual Public Meeting on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. Strong, locally roasted coffee and homemade muffins will be served. The annual public meeting is hosted by OHA’s Board of Directors, chaired by Richard Howe of Stonington; Community Advisory Board (CAB), founded in 2002 and co-chaired by Wendy Sewall and Jane Osborne; and Artistic Advisory Board, founded in 2011. Members of all three boards provide Opera House Arts, a nonprofit 501 C 3 organization, with leadership of and input on the Opera House’s year round programs; facilities; and operations.
The Stonington Opera House celebrated its Centennial Season in 2012 and Opera House Arts has launched there its 14th annual summer season of programs. The Annual Public Meeting agenda includes introductions of staff, interns, and board members, as well as the following topics: a financial review of the 2012 season, including the Joe & Sue Rares Digital Cinema Fund; a summary of OHA’s new strategic and success plans, as well as plans for facilities expansion; an overview of OHA’s Education program; and the introduction of OHA’s new program-in-development, The Bridge Project/The Last Ferryman, an original musical theater production, based on local stories, to commemorate the 2014 75th anniversary of the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge. Attendees will also view a three minute video trailer of this August’s unique production, an installation/video/dance performance based on the work of artist Edward Hopper: Voyeur, by Bridgman/Packer Dance.
At 12 p.m., at the completion of the meeting, public guided tours of the 1912 Opera House will be available.
Questions from the public will drive the bulk of the meeting’s agenda.
OHA’s Board of Directors meets three times a year and will host its Annual Benefit Gala on Monday, July 8. OHA’s Community Advisory Board (CAB) meets five times a year and, working closely with the staff and Board of Directors, supports a range of activities, multiple committees and task forces. On Tuesday, August 13 at 5:00 pm the CAB will host a series of special Stonington Main Street events as part of the sneak peek into Bridgman/Packer’s Voyeur. To participate in either special event, please contact the Opera House box office at 207-367-2788.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in OHA’s Annual Public meeting. For further information, please call the Opera House at 207-367-2788, visit www.operahousearts.org, or follow Opera House Arts on Facebook and Twitter at operahousearts.
