Apple Market Report

The peaches are in (as we’ve already announced) from 5 Star Orchard & Nursery. There’s Tim with the juicy devils above. However, unlike the report here in the Bangor Daily News, the prognosis for locally grown island and peninsula apples is not an optimistic one. Apple crops across the state are down at least 10-20% but here on Deer Isle it’s well below that figure. States like Michigan have been wiped out by the drought. This will have an effect on prices at your grocery store this winter on apples, apple cider, apple vinegar, apple sauce, etc. So if you see apples at the Stonington Farmers Market in a few weeks, snap them up and keep ’em in a cool place so you can enjoy them for a longer period of time. Every Friday from 10AM to Noon.
